New Zealand　Sさん（2025年2月）

日本を離れて一か月が経ちました。私は、今回の留学が初めての海外です。ですから、この一生涯でなかなか経験できないことを経験し、悔いなく過ごしていきたいと考えます。

まずは、私のホストファミリーについて紹介します。家族構成はホストファザー、マザーと四歳のシスターです。みんなとてもやさしくて親切です。普段、私のホストファミリーはみな忙しいので、朝は家にいないことが多いです。よって、夜みんなで夜ご飯を食べるときに、一日の話をすることが多いです。私が、英語を聞き取るのが苦手なことを伝えたら、ホストファミリーは私にだけゆっくり話してくれていていつも助かります。

週末は、よくいろいろな所へ連れて行ってくれます。先日は、私は初めてホストファザーのフィットネスの大会を見に行きました。日本とは違い、大会はまるでパーティーみたいな感じでした。

また、この前はキャンプに連れて行ってくれました。家庭によってキャンプでの過ごし方は違いましたが、私は遊ぶというよりは、ほとんどリラックスする時間が多かったです。ホストファミリーと多くの会話をする時間を持つことで、関係性を深められたのでとても良い経験をしたと考えます。

次に、学校の話をします。私が通っている学校は、カイパラカレッジです。ニュージーランドのヘレンズヒルというところにあります。毎朝１５分ぐらい歩いて通っています。へレンズビルは都会とは違い、とてものどかで心地よいところです。生徒はマオリやヨーロッパの人たちが多く、多くの人はどちらかというと英語はブリティッシュの発音が多いです。ですから、はじめは訛りが強すぎて何を言っているのか全く分かりませんでした。

また、学校に通い始めたころはなかなか誰も話しかけてくれなかったし、私たちも話しかけることができませんでした。それもそうですが、日本から留学してきた他校の生徒がとても多く、日本人で固まってしまうことが多く、なかなか英語の練習ができませんでした。言葉遣いが悪い生徒も見られますが、中には挨拶をしてくれる人もいるので、今の学校生活は大きな問題はないです。

私のバディは、オリビアというの女の子なのですが、とてもやさしくて頭が良いです。毎日、一緒にお昼ご飯を食べています。

私は今、STAT・English・Music・PELの授業を受けています。STATは、統計数学です。私が今学んでいるのは日本でいうところの数学Aです。単語が難しいので毎日大変です。

Englishは、だいたい黙々とレポートを書くという授業が多いです。今私は、プラスティックの問題を取り挙げてレポートを書いています。

Musicは、みんなで歌ったり楽器を演奏したり、自分たちで曲を作るということをしています。私が、音楽の授業で一番楽しかったことは、お互いに自国の歌を教えあって歌ったことです。

PELの授業では、最近タッチラグビーとプールを行っています。男子が多くあまり女子がいない科目です。

まだあまり話せていませんが、これから先も一緒の授業を受けるので、仲を深められるように頑張りたいと思います。

部活には入っていません。本当は、バドミントン部に入りたかったのですがウィンタースポーツなので、今のニュージーランドは夏のため行われていないです。

ボランティア活動もまだ参加していませんが、自分から調べて積極的に参加できるようにしていきたいです。

今月は、あまり日本から離れることはできませんでした。

来月の抱負として、私は現地の友達を作れるようにするのと、毎日英単語を勉強するということをしていきたいです。また、出来る限り日本人と固まらないようにし、現地の人に積極的に話すことを心がけていきたいです。

一度しかないチャンスを自分の力にしていきたいです。

New Zealand Study abroad   (February)

It has been one month since I left Japan. I went abroad for the first time, so I thought I want to spend this important time doing things that I could not usually experience in my life. First, I will introduce my host family. My host family consists of host father, host mother and host sister who is 4 years old. They are very kind to me. They are very busy every day. They are usually not at home in the morning, so I always tell my host family about my day when we are having dinner. I thought they are good people because when I told them that I am not very proficient in English they always speak English slowly. My host family often takes me to various places on weekends. For example, I went to a fitness competition of my host father for the first time. It is like a party. I thought it is different from Japan. They also took me camping. I also thought it is different because we spent more time relaxing than doing activities. Being with them, I thought I could experience a lot of good things while having a lot of English conversations.

Next, I will talk about my school in New Zealand. The school I go to is Kaipara College. It is in Helensville in New Zealand. To go there, I walk there for about 15 minutes every morning. Helensville is a rural township, so I feel very comfortable. There are a lot of Maori and Europeans, I thought most people speak English or British. I do not understand what people say because they speak with a strong accent. Also, when I went to school, many students did not talk to Japanese students and I could not talk to them about anything. There are a lot of other Japanese students in Kaipara College, they want to stay together and make a group of Japanese so I could not practice English.

There are a lot of students who use bad words, but most people always greet me .So I thought I do not have a problem now. I have a buddy who is a girl. Her name is Olivia, she is so kind and so smart. I eat lunch with Olivia every day.

I am taking lessons of STAT, English, Music and PEL now. For STAT is statistics, it is like Math A in Japan. It is difficult for me because the English words of STAT are difficult, but I will try it. For English, the contents are often writing reports. I am writing a report on the plastics problem now. For Music, the contents are singing a song, playing instruments and making a song. The most fun things about the music lesson were teaching music and singing a song to each other. For PEL, we are playing touch rugby and swimming in the pool. There are a lot of boys and do not have many girls. I could not talk to them, I will try to be able to talk to them because I thought we would take these lessons together. I haven’t joined a club. I want to join a badminton club, but I cannot join it because it is a winter sport, it is summer in New Zealand now. I have not joined the volunteer team yet, so I will research activities.

This month I have stayed close to Japanese friends so next month I will try to make many friends and I will continue to study English words every day next month. I will make an effort to talk with Kaipara College students and not stay with a group of Japanese students. I think I want to take this opportunity to improve my English speaking skills.
