カナダ1年留学　Sさん

Hello! It’s been almost four months since I came to Canada! It snows here! The whole town is white and beautiful. My school was canceled because of snow! It doesn’t snow very much in Tokyo, so I was so excited when it started snowing!

I slid on the snow on the field trip and went to see illuminations at the other event. My drama class and my music class collaborated, and I did a show. In the school plays which I’ve done before the teachers always gave instructions and we rehearsed again and again, but with this show was we didn’t rehearse through, and I was a little confused, but it was so fun!

Because it will be Christmas soon, many houses are lit up and there was a Santa parade in the town. People around here like to decorate their houses for each event more than neighborhoods in my town in Japan. They are beautiful.

The other day, I was told that my English is improved by my friend. I was so happy to hear that! I had felt my English hasn’t improved yet, but I had a little emotional boost after hearing that. Before, I couldn’t understand English and had just given up understanding what being said, but now I listen more intently, thinking that the other people are trying to convey something just like me. Lately I have been able to speak English easily and have gradually been able to understand conversation with native speakers. I had been studying only characters, such as grammar and vocabulary on the textbook. Recently, I realized that to speak English, it is important to listen to English and speak it a lot. I’ll do my best for the next 7 months.

カナダに来てほとんど4ヶ月が経ちました。こっちでは雪がふりました！街全体が白一色でとても綺麗です。雪のせいで学校が1日休みになりました。東京ではこんなに雪が降らないので、朝起きて雪が積もってるのを見ると、とてもテンションが上がりました！

学校の遠足で、雪の上を滑って遊んだり、他のイベントでイルミネーションを見に行ったりしました。学校で演劇のクラスと私の音楽のクラスがコラボレーションしてショーをしました。今まで私がしてきた学芸会などでは先生が指示をだして何回もリハーサルをして本番に挑んでいましたが今回は指示もあまりなく最初から全員で合わせたりもせず本番でも少し混乱しましたがでしたが面白かったです。

もうすぐクリスマスなので、街の家たちがデコレーションされていたり、サンタパレードがありました。日本の私の住んでいるところがよりもここら辺の人たちの方がイベントごとに家の周りをデコレーションするのが好きだと思います。

  この前友達に英語上手くなったねと言われてとても嬉しかったです。英語全然が上達してないと思っていましたが、そう言われて少し余裕ができました。前は英語が聞き取れなくてあきらめて聞き流したりしていましが、相手も自分と同じように何かを伝えてようとしているのだ思い、集中して前より聞くようにしています。最近は前よりすぐ英語で言葉がでたり、ネイティブの会話も少しずつ聞き取れるようになったことを実感しています。今まではテキストで文法、単語など文字ばかりで勉強していました。英語を話せるようになるには英語をたくさん聞いたり話したりすることが大切なんだと最近気がつきました。あと7か月頑張りたいです。
