イギリス1年留学　Mさん

Daytime in England is warm, but mornings and nights are as cold as midwinter in Tokyo, and my breath looks white. I heard it rains every day, but there are many sunny days, and dogs and squirrels run in the park I pass on my way to and from school every day. I was seated in the middle of a three-person seat on the plane. It was my first long flight, so there was a lot I didn’t understand, but the kind people on both sides of me helped me a lot and I managed to survive the 14-hour flight. After getting off the plane, a kind person told me where to pick up my baggage. I am truly grateful for all the help I received from so many people.

【My host family】

My host family has two people who love football. They are very energetic and invite me to do origami or play football. On weekends and holidays, we go to the movies together or to parks we want to go to.

【School】

At first, I had a hard time getting used to the school, and I couldn’t stand the unusual stares I received, so I looked for a place where there were no other people. However, the school was not big enough for a stranger to find a classroom by himself, so I asked teachers and students for help, and various people helped me. Eventually, I made friends with whom I ate lunch together, and I was able to blend in with the class atmosphere. The study aspect is the hardest for me, and I have to do some kind of homework every day. English class is especially difficult and I can barely keep up with the class. As for clubs, I joined a badminton club that meets on Wednesdays during lunch time. The club is so small that we can fit in two handfuls of people including myself. It is very fun to play the same sport and communicate with each other even if we can’t communicate well in words.

After one month, I am finally getting used to life here. I will have tests and poetry presentations soon, but I will try to live my life carefully, one day at a time.

イギリスの昼間は暖かいですが、朝と夜は東京の真冬並みの寒さで、吐く息が白く見えます。毎日雨と聞いていましたが、晴れてる日も多く、登下校中に通る公園では毎日犬やリスが走っています。飛行機の席は三人席の真ん中で、初の長時間フライトだったので分からないことだらけだったのですが、両隣の親切な方にいろいろ助けていただきなんとか14時聞を耐え抜きました。飛行機を降りてからもどこで荷物を受け取るのかなどを親切な方に教えていただきました。様々な方に助けてもらうばかりで、本当に感謝しかありません。

【ホストファミリー】

ホストファミリーにフットボール好きの第二人がいます。その二人はとても元気で、折り紙やろう、フットボールやろう、と誘ってくれます。休日は一緒に映画を観に行ったり、行きたい公園に行ったりなどして息抜きをしています。

【学校】

はじめはなかなかなじめず、物珍しい視線を浴びて過ごすことが耐えられず、人がいない場所を探し、ランチタイムの前の中休憩の時は一人で過ごすことがほとんどでした。しかし学校は何も知らない者が一人で教室に辿り着けるような大きさではなく、先生や生徒など、様々な人に助けていただきました。そのうち一緒にランチを食べる友達ができ、クラスの空気に溶け込むことができるようになりました。勉強面が一番大変で毎日何かしらの宿題に追われています。特にEnglishのクラスが難しく、授業に追いつくのもやっとな状況です。クラブは水曜日のランチタイムに活動するバドミントンのクラブに入りました。クラブは人数が少なく、私含めて２つの手で収まるくらいです。同じスポーツをやっていると、言葉でうまく伝えられなくてもコミュニケーションが取れてとても楽しいです。

1ヶ月経ちようやく生活に慣れてきました。これからテストや詩の発表などがありますが、一つ一つ丁寧にこなして生活していこうと思います。
