今年１年を締めくくる月になりました。学校も最終日を迎えて、勉強に少しの間休止符が打たれました。アメリカではサンクスギブンスの後、一気にクリスマスモードが濃くなったような気がします。どのお店に行ってもクリスマスのためのものがたくさん置いてあって、クリスマスがどんどん楽しみになっていました。

日本でもクリスマスは多くの人が楽しみにしているイベントの１つですが、冬休みの期間を考えてみると、年末から年始に続いて冬休みが続いているので、どちらかといえば大晦日や新年をより大切にしているように感じます。ですが、アメリカではクリスマスが一大イベントなのでクリスマスよりも前から冬休みが始まり、年が明けるとすぐに学校が始まります。私の学校も2日から学校があります。日本とかなり違うので驚きました。

学校の最終日にはクラスごとにクリスマスパーティーがありました。みんなで当日までに何をするかを考えました。私のクラスは、ピザを注文して食べ物や飲み物を持ち寄りました。他にもマフィアゲームをみんなでやりました。また、シークレットサンタというプレゼント交換のようなものもクラスでやりました。日本だと学校でこんなふうにパーティーをみんなですることはないのですごく新鮮に感じましたし、色濃く思い出に残りました。

冬休み中には雪が降りました。たくさんではありませんでしたが、一晩明けると氷に変わってしまい３日間ほど外に出るのが難しい時もありました。ホストシスターと友達と家の前でスケートみたいに滑って遊んだのが楽しかったです。

ついにこの留学生活も折り返しを迎えようとしています。時間があっという間で、焦りも感じながら楽しみたいとよく考えています。悩むことも当たり前にありますが、とにかく出来ないと諦めることだけはしたくないと毎日全力で何事にも挑戦しようとしてます。来年はもっといろんなことに挑戦して悔いない年にしていきたいです。

It’s finally the last month of 2022. I usually study a lot during a school day, so I took a break during winter vacation. After thanksgiving, it changed to a Christmas atmosphere in the united states at once. When I went to a grocery store or shopping mall, there was a lot of stuff for Christmas. It made me excited for Christmas.

Christmas is one of the events which people like in Japan. However, we focus on the new year more and more. Because we usually have winter vacation between Christmas and after the new year. Also, there are a lot of TV shows for the new year and sales. In the United states, we usually have winter vacations before Christmas to the new year. In my school, we resume school on January 2nd. It’s unbelievable for Japanese people.

We had a party in each grade on the last day before winter vacation. We were planning for this party a few days ago. In my class, we ordered some pizza and some people brought food and drinks. We also played a Mafia game and Secret Santa. Secret Santa is that we made a wish list in which some things you want were written on ourselves. And we mix them and pick one of them. And then, the paper is written the name of the classmate and the classmate’s wish list. We need to buy a gift for the person before a party. I don’t think we can hold a party in a school in Japan so it was so great.

We got snow during the winter vacation. It was not a lot of snow, but it became ice the next day. I got out of my home and played with my host sister and my friend like skating. Also, we could not go anywhere by car.

I’m about to reach half of my journey. I feel time goes by so fast. There are a lot of difficult things around me but I always try everything every day. Because I don’t want to give up before I try. I changed my thoughts and attitude that I try to do everything a lot. For example, I can say No when I don’t want someone to do something to me. It is so an important thing in the United states. I’ll try a lot of things and won’t be afraid of something at first next year.
