There are only a few days left in this year, and when I think about returning to Japan next month, I can’t really feel anything.

The last 5 months have been a huge boost to my growth. Above all, I was able to further improve my ability to take action and self-reliance, which are indispensable for living in the future.

When I first started living at school and with my host family, there was a time when I was worried and worried because I was trying to fit in with the same feeling I had when I was living in Japan. Of course, I thought it would be difficult to get used to it because of the different cultures and values. However, I realized that having the ability to adapt myself to the situation is one of the reasons I can get along well with people, even before problems such as different cultures arise. From that day on, I forgot my feelings about Japan and broadened my horizons with the goal of interacting with as many people as possible.

Also, when I am placed in an unfamiliar environment, I tend to think only about myself and become overwhelmed. Thanks to that, I think I’ve become less anxious than before, and I feel less awkward and distant with friends and family.

In this way, based on the emotions I felt at that time, I think that I have been able to adapt to the blessed environment I am in now by improving my behavior.

Last month, I was infected with the coronavirus and was out of shape for a long time.

It was my first time to get sick overseas, and when I found out I was infected, I was really worried.

There were times when I worried about whether I would be able to accurately explain my physical condition or whether I might infect my host family. However, I realized that I was in a position where I was accepted even though I was a family member, and I took care of everything around me by myself. (Laundry, tableware I used, cleaning up after the bathtub, etc.)

In Japan, my parents took care of everything for me, so I found it difficult to raise awareness even in the last few days. It will also give me an opportunity to think about how much I have been dependent on my parents, and I would like to try to live a life that does not rely too much on others.

This year, I was able to celebrate the long-awaited Christmas in Canada.

The biggest difference compared to Japan is that Christmas is a big traditional event for Canadians. What do you think of when you are asked what you must do on Christmas day in Japan?

I’m sure each family will have a different answer.

However, in Canada, the birth of Jesus, which is the origin of the Christmas event, is celebrated at church, and on the 24th, relatives and friends gather to have a Christmas party and bake Christmas cookies. On the 25th, we exchange Christmas presents with our families.

According to my host family, Canada’s Christmas is a kind of traditional event and culture in order to maintain this style every year.

This time, I was able to come into direct contact with this precious culture, and this experience deepened my love for Christmas.

Also, just like the Thanks giving day held in September, I think that it is one of the warm customs unique to Canada to celebrate the origin of the event and celebrate it on a large scale of the country.

I am very much looking forward to my first New Year’s Eve in Canada soon.

Again, I will finish my study abroad life next month.

I want to savor my time with my host family and friends, and spend the rest of the day without any regrets.

The main event in December is Christmas.  Christmas is a lively event in Japan, but Christmas in Canada is a big event that cannot be compared to what is held in Japan.  At school, the student council held a dance party, and there was an event called Secret Santa.  The dance party was held in the evening after school.  We darkened the gymnasium, played music in a club-like environment, danced, and ate sandwiches, pizza, and cookies.  It was very interesting to see people wearing dresses and suits.  During the Secret Santa time, an interesting mini-game was played and the audience was very excited.  Also, it was a pajama day on the day it was held, so it was very interesting to see the individuality of each person.  In addition, the craft fair that was held together with the local people, and the small presentations (art, music, drama, etc.) in Canada were also held at the school, which became very good memories.

What I wrote here is only the event held at school, and there are other things such as lighting up the house and decorating the big Christmas tree.  As I have always felt, December was full of things I had never experienced in my life in Japan, as if I had jumped into the world of movies and dramas. I have a test next month, and there are still many things I don’t understand, but I would like to cherish each and every one of them and make many memories.

Yesterday I went to see a movie with my friends. It was a really wonderful movie. Recently I realized, I’m able to tap English letters faster than before I do. Also I think I became a person who can listen to English well. Since yesterday, our area’s house cannot use water. So my host mother went to the supermarket to get some water. I was really surprised at iced water. My host mother said, this is first time to get so cold which the water iced. Probably people who live in this area are not sure when this thing will finish. We have to wait till water melts,,,,,!? I think which is really too long. I couldn’t take a shower yesterday. But I think this is important experiences. In the near future, I can remember this thing as such a funny memory when I think about this.
