ここでの生活が始まり、すでに1ヶ月が経ちました。かなりこちらの生活にも慣れてきました。

1ヶ月という期間でたくさんの人に会いましたが、みんな本当にフレンドリーです。初めて学校に行った日はたくさんの子たちと話して、1人と話していたらその子づてにどんどん友達が増えていきました。ランチも一緒に食べようと誘ってくれて、話も振ってくれて、わからない時は文字にして伝えてくれたり、本当に素敵な友達に恵まれたと思います。

男女関係なく、学年も超えて、みんなで仲良しで、「みんなで」という気持ちから、ぎゅうぎゅう詰めでベンチに座ってランチを食べたりもします。

私は学校のバレーボールクラブに入りました！日本ように3年間同じものをやるのではなく、シーズンでスポーツが変わります。私たちはバレーボールを10月まで行う予定です。私のチームは殆どが未経験ですが、みんなで音楽をかけながら練習するのは私の大好きな時間の一つです。期間が決まっているため、もうすでに試合も始まっていて、学校終わりに車で2時間かけて相手校に行ったりもして、それも楽しいです。私たちは自分達の学校で行う試合のことをホームゲームと呼びます。ホームゲームはこちらの生徒達にとって特別なものなのだと思います。そのため当日、選手達はドレスアップをしないと行けません。ドレスアップとは学校に来る時にジーンズやグラフィックTシャツのような普段通りの服装ではなく、綺麗な服装をして行くことを言います。ホームゲームでは自分の学校を応援するために残って応援したり、生徒の家族も見に来たりします。スポーツを通して友達ができたり、会話ができることは本当に素敵なことだなと思いました。

まだまだ始まったばかりですが、ベストを尽くして頑張ります。

It’s already been about one month since I came here. I’m getting used to living here.

I have met many people in just a month, and I would say that they are very friendly. On the first day I went to school, I talked with a lot of people and when I was talking with one of them, I became friends with them. They invited me to have lunch together, and talked with me, and typed when I couldn’t understand. I feel that I’m blessed with really nice friends. Regardless of gender and grade, we are all good friends in school. Also, we have lunch together.

I joined the volleyball team in our school! In Japan, we usually play the same sport for about three years. However, we are going to play volleyball in October. Also, we play different sports for boys and girls, and we sometimes go to each other’s games to support each other. It’s one of my favorite cultures in my school. Although it is the first time for most of my teammates and me to play volleyball, l like this time to play volleyball. We always say “Good job” and “Good try” each other. This isn’t the culture in Japan. I can be more positive because of these words. We have already had some games and we sometimes go to the opponent’s school after school by car. It’s so much fun!  Also, we call the game which is held in my school a “Home Game”. I suppose home game is special. On days when we have a game scheduled, we “dress up” for school, meaning that we wear formal clothes on that day. Also, some students, teachers, and families come to the game! I think our school is like a family.

It’s only just started, and I will continue to do my best.

１１月も終わり、２０２２年も残り一か月となりました。

すでにオレゴンでの生活も三か月が過ぎ、毎日のルーティーンができたような気がします。

基本的に毎日、宿題やテスト勉強などのタスクがあり、先生や友達の力を借りてなんとか乗り越えています。日本にいた時よりも、宿題や小テストが高頻度であるのでその分内容は忘れにくいですが、毎日の勉強に平日は終われています。頑張ってやった宿題を提出した時はうれしい気持ちと達成感でいっぱいになります。

それでも夜にホストシスターと映画を観たりしたりお話すると、普段追われているものから離れたような気がするので、私のお気に入りの時間です。

今月はBanquateというイベントがありました。テーマが決められていて、今回は「フェアリーテイル」でした。このイベントは、私が楽しみにしていたことの一つだったので、準備の段階からすごく楽しかったです。

この時期にテーマに合うドレスを探すのは簡単ではありませんでしたが、当日までにネイルをしたり、髪の毛をセットする練習をしたりする時間からすべてがすごく楽しかったです。

１１月の第４木曜日といえば、Thanksgivingです！Thanksgivingとは、自分の家族や友達、あるいは収穫などに感謝する日のことです。私の学校ではThanksgivingに合わせて約６日間のお休みがありました。私は友達とお泊り会をしたり、トランポリンをしに遊びに行ったり、ホストファミリーとThanksgivingのディナーを食べたりととても充実した時間を過ごしました。

そしてワールドカップが開催されました。私の学校には様々なバックグラウンドを持つ生徒がいるので、お互いの国を応援しあっていました。日本とは違って、ルールをよく知らなくてもみんな同じ熱量で応援している姿が印象的でした。スポーツは国関係なく愛されているものだとこちらに来てから、よく感じています。

2022年の残りの時間が減ってきていることを実感しています。自分の中で、英語を話すことへの抵抗がなくなってきていることに最近気づき、嬉しくなりました。より充実した時間を過ごせるように時間を大切にして、たくさんのことに挑戦していきたいと思います。

November is over so we have only one month until 2023.

I get the feeling I have my routine every day. Basically, I have homework or study for quizzes as my task. People around me always help me so I can get through all assignments. We have more homework and quiz than in Japan. It helps me to remember contents from classes but it makes me busy and tired. After I turned my homework in, I feel like great!

Also, my favorite time is watching movies or talking with my host sister. Then I can leave my tasks and relax.

Banquet came up this month! It was one of the events I looked forward to, so I had a great time there. It wasn’t easy to find a dress that matched the theme. It was an amazing time not only that day but also when I look for a dress and do my own nails and hair. Everything made me happy.

When people in the United State think of the fourth Thursday in November, they think of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is the day that people thanks their family or friends, the harvest.

I slept over with my friends and played trampoline and had a special dinner with my host family.

Also, World Cup was held these days. There are students has different backgrounds from each other so they cheered each other country. I was impressed with even people who doesn’t know the rule joined them to cheer and had fun. I think it is different from Japan. I’ve been feeling sport is loved by many people around the world regardless of the difference in country and sport made us connect.

2022 will be over soon. I feel the time is getting less to spend in Oregon. I realized I’m not afraid of speaking English anymore these days, I’m so happy about that.  I want to take good care of my time and try a lot of things.
