<2nd month>

Unlike when I lived in Japan, I don’t have many tests or homework, so I spend my days after school and on holidays playing and chatting with friends, and it feels like the days have flown by. While I am enjoying the fact that I am able to communicate more and improve my English conversation little by little, I also feel a little anxious about having to start studying for entrance exams such as the Eiken exam after returning to Japan. I feel it. However, I feel like it will be easier to balance these things than I imagined before coming to Canada. So, in October, I tried to be more conscious of using correct grammar in conversations than ever before. I use it to look up word order or more accurate expressions in conversations that I don’t understand, or to ask the host. I also try to use English learning apps every day that can be done in about 15 minutes a day. After dinner, I have some time, so my daily routine is to share with my host what I learned at school that day, what surprised me, and what made me happy. In the beginning of this month, all the international students had the opportunity to eat pizza provided by the school for lunch. It was really fun to be able to interact with not only international students but all international students.

I made a jack-o-lantern for Halloween at the end of October. It was a lot of fun to have a lot of family and friends come together and sing and talk together. I drilled a large hole into the pumpkin and dug inside to make the face from the outside. I had never really experienced celebrating Halloween in Japan, so it was a great experience to learn about a new culture. On Sunday of that week, I went hiking in the local mountains with my host sister and an exchange student from Thailand. My child, an international student from Thailand, attends a different school, but I met him at an orientation session for a local agent company when he just arrived in Canada, and I was happy that we were able to talk a lot.

When I went to school on October 31st, Halloween, all the teachers and students were wearing costumes and face paint, and a costume contest was held in the cafeteria during lunch time. It was really fun to see both teachers and students having fun together.

＜２ヶ月目＞

　日本で生活してた時のようにテストや宿題がほとんどないので、放課後や休日を友達と遊んだり、おしゃべりしたりして過ごしているとあっという間に月日が過ぎているように感じています。その分より多くのコミュニケーションが取れて英会話が少しずつ上達していくのが楽しいと思う反面、日本に戻った後の英検など受験のための学習も進め始めなければいけないという焦りの気持ちも少し感じています。でもそれらを両立することはカナダに来る前に想像してたよりも簡単にできるような気もしています。なので、１０月は今までよりも正しい文法で会話することをより意識して過ごすようにしました。会話の中で分からない語順や、より正確な表現をその都度調べたり、ホストに尋ねる用にしています。他にも一日十五分程度でできる英語学習のアプリを毎日続けるようにしています。夕食の後は時間があるので、ホストとその日に学校で勉強したことや驚いたこと、嬉しかったことを共有し合うのが日課です。

今月の初めにインターナショナルの生徒みんなでランチに学校が提供してくれたピザを食べる機会がありました。留学生だけでなく全てのインターナショナルの生徒で交流できてすごく楽しかったです。

10月の終わりにハロウィンのためのジャックオーランタンを作りました。親戚など沢山の家族や友達が集まってみんなで歌ったり、お話しながらできてとても楽しかったです。かぼちゃにドリルで大きな穴を開けて中身を掘って外側から顔を作りました。ハロウィンを祝う事自体あまり日本で経験したことがなかかったので新しい文化を学べてとてもいい経験になりました。その週の日曜日にホストシスターとタイからの留学生の子と一緒に地域の山の中のハイキングに参加しました。タイの留学生の子は別の学校に通っているのですが、カナダに到着したばかりの頃の現地のエージェント会社のオリエンテーションで会って以来で沢山話したりできて嬉しかったです。

10月31日ハロウィンの日に学校に行くと、先生も生徒も皆んなコスチュームやフェイスペイントを身に纏っていて、ランチタイムにはカフェテリアでコスチュームコンテストが開催されました。先生も生徒も混じって盛り上がれたのがすごく楽しかったです。
